The make up of the mentors depend on the course. Some basics though, a male participant should be connected with a man. A woman participant connected to a woman. If the course is for couples, such as First Year of Marriage, the mentors should be a couple who has been successfully married a reasonable amount of time. For specific courses such as Dealing with Grief. the mentor should have experienced it themselves. The idea is that the mentor is going to walk with the person through the process.

There are 3 different membership levels associated with Connextions.
-Administrators - Administrators have access to everything on the website. They are the only ones who can submit a change or add a course for a participant. They are also the ones who connect a participant with a mentor for the church. The ideal is to have a couple of administrators so all of the work in not on any one person.
-Mentors - Mentors have access to all of the courses. You choose who your church is authorizing to be a mentor. The ideal, besides the first two mentors who are just chosen, they go through the mentor training on the website with an experienced mentor.
-Participant - The participant is the one requesting and taking individual courses. While they can go determine how fast to go through an individual course, it is recommended to not approve many at one time. If multiple courses are approved at once, the participant tends to lose focus and do the work on the course they working on.
-
Churches tend to think the course is the most powerful component to Connextions. However, the courses are designed with a very open feel. The power of the courses are actually the TAKE ACTION section where the participant starts to consider and work on the ideas behind the course. Also the purposeful and intentional connection to a mentor. This connects people with people over a shared topic. That connection is what provides the participant a safe space to have a conversation, share doubts, or struggles as well as anything positive going on in their lives.
